Community Empowerment and Family Support for Highly Vulnerable Children Project
It's our wish to accommodate as many vulnerable and abandoned children as possible but we cannot, due to the size of our home. With our Community Empowerment and Family Support for Highly Vulnerable Children Project, we hope to solve this constraint of size by taking the help to them (the vulnerable and abandoned children) while in their communities.
(It takes a village to raise a child).
Currently, with this project, we interact with the community, counsel them and sensitize them on issues of child neglect, child abuse, child labour and any other causes of vulnerable and abandoned children. We also make donations as much as we can, of basic necessities to families in need.
As part of the above project, we've visited a slum in Namuwongo B, Bukasa Parish, Makindye Division, a suburb of Kampala city. Namuwongo is one of the densely populated slums, a hub of mostly low income earners who despite their modest incomes, are blessed with many children. Statistically, the largest percentage of children admitted at Oasis Home originates from Makindye Division, and that is why we started this outreach project in Namuwongo.
